Having been pipped to the title in Semester 1 Wednesday Division 1 the history boys were thirsty for another shot at silverware.
The Semester 2 season exploded into life in chaotic fashion with a scrappy 2-2 draw against Econ Wed, the side who’d previously derailed the blues’ title bid.
A 4-4 draw under the Peffermill lights with Bayern Bru followed. On his return debut, Josh Stephens was unlucky to miss out on the goal of the season with a thunderous left-foot strike from 20 yards. Porous. Electrifying. Never a dull moment for the history boys.
Matchday 3 saw more of the same as history surrendered a two-goal lead to Staples FC to draw 3-3. However, the goal of the season came from club icon and self-titled ‘plays better when hungover’ Danny McGarrie. Following a blistering break, the ball came out to Oscar Johnson on the right side of the box. Stealing a breath, Oscar had fans everywhere screaming “Beckham?” as he placed an inch-perfect cross onto the oncoming head of #DM7 who did what he does best.
A short break following a league reset saw the blues make the trip down to Duddingston for a lifeless defeat to Econ Wed in bleak conditions. A bright spark saw the emergence of Kyran Pender and another goal from the fox in the box CB Callum Hill.
In dire need of a cultural reset, skipper Ollie Clark went back to the drawing board, opting for a 2000s inspired AC Milan 4-3-1-2. Coincidentally or otherwise, EUCFC who was fresh off a 5-3 victory over former league winners NWP, were treated to an 11-1 drubbing by the history boys. A midfield masterclass was buoyed by the returning Marcel Goirre, as Abe Armstrong and Josh Ukairo ran riot further forward. A career first hat-trick from Abe was matched by Danny McGarrie up top, with Scott and Josh grabbing two, and Ross snatching another. As a sultry hue descended on Peffermill 3G2, the ruthless win made it an evening to remember.
Having beaten them comfortably the previous season, a disjointed final-day defeat to Neville Wears Prada was a cruel way to finish an otherwise electrifying season.
A change of guard will see the history boys take a new direction in the upcoming 2022/23 season…
